Babcock's Auto Service was founded by Homer Babcock. For years he built a business on hard work ethic and honesty. In 1980 he relocated his shop to the old Virginian Ford Dealership at 1300 Court Street. Continuing a business of straight forward genuine work. His sometimes "gruff" nature was tempered as his son Bobby took over the business, earning NUMEROUS Best in Lynchburg awards for Auto Repair and 2 second places from Virginia Living Magazine for the Central Virginia Region.
In the 1920's the City of Lynchburg used the property for the City Stadium, hosting football games right in the heart of downtown Lynchburg.
In 1946 Virginian Ford build a dealership on the property, complete with a showroom, shop, oil change, and later adding additional bays and a parking deck.
Today the shop stands unchanged. The angled glass, the barrel vault ceilings, the essence of a 1940's car dealership.
As the Ford Dealership was being constructed so was the A & P Super Market. With the simple lines of the 1940's coupled with the explosion of window advertising this building became a staple in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Today this structure has been used to sell restaurant equiptment, yet again the structure and the clean lines were never tampered.
